Baja California Medsummit 2013

The Baja Medsummit 2013, known also as the Baja California Medical Device Supplier Day was held on September 6, 2013 at Baja Center, Tijuana Mexico.
This was the 6th edition and was organized by Baja Medical Cluster in coordination with the Tijuana EDC.
Every year, a series of activities such as business meetings, specialized workshops, seminars on manufacturing in Mexico, OEM’s and Supplier exhibitions, investment seminars with the purpose of attracting new investment in this sector and develop local and regional supplier base for the medical device manufactures located in Baja California.
In the last 10 years Baja California has registered a significant global expansion of medical device manufacturing, in 2003 Baja California medical sector employed just over 23,700 individuals in less than 40 medical transnational companies, reaching over 65 firms with over 40,000 employees.
Such growth is the result of State and local economic development teams and the industry itself, where the Baja Medical Cluster is actively encouraging suppliers to expand their operations into Mexico through different type of events. One of the most important events is this annual Baja Medsummit that partly explains this constant growth of the sector by attracting every year more competitive companies and more employment on both sides of the US-Mexico border.
A strong advantage for this region represents the industry synergies created between the Baja California Medical Cluster with the California medical cluster, that led to the formation of at least 14 medical device contract manufacturers, the formation of public-private medical alliances between institutions of both sides of the border, opportunities connecting life sciences firms and research institutions in the region, etc.
This year participating transnational companies at the summit are: Medtronic, Care Fusion, DJO Global, M Stage, Fisher&Paykel Healthcare, Flextronics, Nypro, Smiths Medical, Sunrise Medical, Welch Allyn, Teleflex Medical, etc.
