MEXPORT, the Premiere Industrial Tradeshow in both California’s organized by The Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce provided a great opportunity to companies in the region to sell its products and/or services to the growing Mexico Maquiladora industry doing their manufacturing in Mexico.
The event takes place every spring-summer season and it has gaining large popularity for the last 20 years in the Tijuana-San Diego region, with an increased participation every year due to trade increased between both countries which last year reached half a trillion dollars (Mexico becoming the 3rd US trade partner).
At a regional level Mexico was the destination for 97 percent of all of San Diego’s exports, and the source of 82 percent of its imports, according to a report of the National University System Institute for Policy Research.
Half of the attendees where from the manufacturing, electronics and telecommunications sectors, around 15 percent of the attendees where from logistics, customs brokers, a small number where governmental agencies and nonprofit agencies and other sectors. KIOCERA Mexicana, DJO, LLC are two of the transnational corporations that where presents at the exhibition area.
This kind of initiatives are giving positive results, where smaller and medium businesses are finding new trading partners outside the country and so, the business activities aren’t limited to the biggest multinational corporations.
