Tijuana Tech Tour 2014

Tijuana Tech Tour is one of a several regional events that have helped to boost the local tech community. There is no doubt that the city has the advantage of the geographical position, the proximity to California but a new phenomenon is happening, the rising of a growing creative class with young entrepreneurs which leads to a Tijuana that is cultivating a start up culture.
The last tech event consisted on activities (panels of discussion, round tables, guided tours, visits to tech centers, etc.) carried out in three days.
Present at the event were angel investors, entrepreneurs, consultants, around 20 VCs and different professionals related to the technology industry of Baja California and California.
During the first day of the event an interesting theme was brought up “Emergent community and cultural innovation”, were the speakers focused on a robust global border discourse in a space where Latin culture and Anglo urban cultures meet.
During the same day different panels of discussion took place such as: “Policies and resources for Crossborder Startups”, “Crossborder SpartUps and Ecosystems”, “Crossborder VC and Angel Investments”.
During the second day of the event, organized for the participants a visit to entities manufacturing in Mexico utilizing 3D Robotics and also to tech accelerators such as Sonata, MindHub and to the working center -BIT Center. In the afternoon different round tables discussions covering themes such as: Entrepreneur ecosystem, Investment and funding, StartUps, “Policies for economic development”.
The last day was much more a social event to show how the Baja’s buzz is slowly returning. The assistants were introduced to Baja Med cuisine and the cultural scene emerging in Baja California art galleries, street fairs, live music and open-air celebrations and of course they couldn’t miss a guided tour to Museo del Vino and the wine route in the Valle de Guadalupe.
